About
The distance between the document and the work
ProtechOS is built for the part of construction health and safety where the document is read, challenged and relied on: licensed work, regulated sites, principal contractors' approval gates.
The problem is not that construction safety documentation takes time. The problem is that too much of it is generic.
On many projects, risk assessments and method statements are copied from previous jobs, lightly edited, briefly reviewed and signed off under time pressure. They may look complete, but they are often only loosely connected to the specific work, location, interfaces and hazards they are supposed to control.
Existing tools have mostly focused on speed — template libraries first, then automated generators. Both make document production quicker. Neither, on its own, makes the output more specific or more reliable.
In safety documentation, specificity is the point. The role of a competent person is not to sign a generic document faster. It is to develop, review, challenge and approve a document that actually reflects the job.
Who builds it
Built with people who carry the accountability
ProtechOS is developed by a small team in the North East of England, including a co-founder who has extensive experience working on nuclear-licensed sites — among the strictest documentation environments in UK construction, and the standard we treat as the floor, not the ceiling.
The platform has been developed against documentation from real regulated work and reviewed by someone who is professionally accountable for getting that standard right. That is why ProtechOS refuses to invent site facts, and why approval is kept separate from drafting, with any exception recorded and reasoned.
ProtechOS is a documentation support platform for competent persons and duty holders. It assists with drafting, structuring and cross-checking, but it does not act as the authoring contractor, reviewer, approver, permit issuer, principal contractor or designer. Responsibility for the suitability, review, approval and issue of all documents remains with the user's appointed personnel.
Principles
What we hold to
A marked gap beats a confident guess
Most drafting tools return a complete-looking document regardless of what it was told, because an incomplete document looks like a failed product. We think a document that admits what it does not know is the only kind a competent person can actually rely on.
Your wording, your branding, your documents
The wording your clients have already accepted is the wording the drafts use. Your logo and details go on every cover; with no logo, your organisation's name is the wordmark, never ours. Approval fixes the branding into the issued document, and you can export everything your organisation holds whenever you choose.
The record should be worth having
A documentation trail exists to protect you. When it is a signature-collection machine it does the opposite — it proves you held the information and ran a system that processed it without anyone reading it. We would rather build the trail you are glad to hand over.
Built for the person who signs it
The people who carry the accountability are the ones we build for. That is why your wording, your libraries and your branding drive the output, why the reviewer sees exactly what will print, and why approval is a deliberate act by a named person rather than a button at the end of a wizard.
